Soursop - Anti Cancer Treatment

Source: herbal.medicalonlinemedia.com

Soursop is not like chemotherapy which cannot distinguish between cancer cells and healthy cells. Soursop is the fruit of Graviola tree which is believed to kill cancer cells with the potential power of 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy. Efficacy of soursop fruit as an anti-tumor / cancer is very strong, and medically proven to cure all types of cancer. In addition to cure cancer, soursop fruit also acts as anti-bacterial, anti-fungi (fungi), effective against various types of parasites / worms, lowering high blood pressure, depression, stress, and normalize the nervous system.

Herbal Substances of Soursop
For centuries the Indian tribes in South America take advantage of soursop fruit, good leather, wood, roots, leaves and seeds as a traditional medicine for the treatment of heart disease, asthma, liver disorders, and rheumatism. Soursop sour taste comes from organic acids, particularly malic acid, citric acid, and acid isositrat. From the content of this shows that the soursop is rich in vitamin C.

By eating 300 grams of soursop fruit every day the need for vitamin C could be fulfilled. Vitamin C also acts as a antioxidant to increase endurance. Soursop is also rich in other antioxidants in the form of phytochemical compounds such as acetaldehyde, amyloid, annonain, anomuricine, ananol, atherosperminine, betasitosterol, campesterol, citrulline, galactomannan, procyanidin, and tannins.

Soursop contains many minerals phosphorus and calcium are very important in the process of bone growth. Soursop is also rich in potassium which contribute to control blood pressure, rhythm and cardiac function, which can prevent hypertension and protects against atherosclerosis causes heart disease. Soursop also contains fiber and can launch urination due to high water content.

Soursop as an Anti Cancer Herbal Treatment
Health Sciences Institute of America is the Institute that has unmasked the secret of this magical fruit. The astonishing fact is: the Far Amazon forest hinterland, grow “magic tree”, which will change your thinking, your doctor, and the world about the healing process and hope to cancer survival. No one can promise more than this, for the days to come.

Research has proven that “magic tree” and this fruit can:

- Attack cancer cells effectively, safely and naturally, WITHOUT nausea, weight loss, hair loss, as happened in chemotherapy.
- Protecting the immune system and prevent deadly infections.
Patients feel stronger, more healthy during the treatment / healing.
- Increased energy and improved physical appearance.

Source of this shocking news comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in America. Graviola fruit has been tested in more than 20 laboratory, since the 1970s.

Test results from the extract (essence) of this fruit showed that the extract:
Is effective in selecting targets and kills bad cells from 12 different types of cancer, including cancer of the colon, breast, prostate, lung, and pancreas.

Its power work 10,000 times stronger in slowing the growth of cancer cells compared with adriamycin and Chemotherapy commonly used! Unlike chemotherapy, this juice is selective only to hunt and kill the evil and NOT harm / kill healthy cells!

Research has been done extensively on this “magic” tree, for many years but why we do not know anything about this? The answer is so easy; our health and our lives, are controlled by money and power!

One of the largest drug companies in America with a turnover of billions of dollars did extraordinary research on Graviola tree that grows in the forest in the Amazon. Apparently some parts of this tree: the bark, roots, leaves, fruit flesh and seeds, over the centuries have been used as a cure for the Indian tribes in South America to treat: heart disease, asthma, liver problems (heart) and arthritis. With a variety of minimal scientific evidence, the company disbursed funds and human resources are very large in order to do research and various tests.

The results were astonishing. Graviola has been scientifically proven as a cancer cell killing machine! When the experts at the Health Sciences Research Institute found out about the news on the magic Graviola, they began to do research. The results were surprising. Graviola proved to be an effective cancer cells killer tree.

The National Cancer Institute began the first scientific research in 1976. The results proved that the leaves and stem wood of Graviola can attack and destroy the bad cancer cells. Unfortunately, these results were only used for internal purposes and not published.

Since 1976, Graviola has been proven to be a killer of cancer cells in the extraordinary trials conducted by 20 different independent laboratories.

A study published by the Journal of Natural Products stated that studies conducted by the Catholic University in South Korea, said that one of the chemical elements contained in Graviola, can select, discriminate and kill cancer cells in the colon, and 10,000 times more potent than with adriamycin and Chemotherapy.

The most striking discovery from this study by the Catholic University:
Graviola can select and kill only the evil of cancer cells, while healthy cells are not touched / disturbed. Graviola is not like chemotherapy which cannot distinguish between cancer cells and healthy cells, which is why reproductive cells (such as stomach and hair) had been killed by Chemotherapy causing negative side effects such as nausea and hair loss.

Soursop is the fruit of Graviola tree which is believed to kill cancer cells with the potential power of 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy. A study at Purdue University shows that the Graviola leaves are able to kill cancer cells effectively, particularly cancer cells of the prostate, pancreas, and lungs. After about 7 years of no news on Graviola, finally the news of this remedy became known through information from the institutions mentioned above.

Limited supply of Graviola extract harvested by natives Brazil is now available in the market. The full story of Graviola, on how to acquire, and how to use it, can be found in Beyond Chemotherapy: New Cancer Killers, Safe as Mother’s milk, as a special free bonus issue of the Health Sciences Institute.

Graviola Herbal Ingredient:
Dr Tirtawinata, fruit experts in Bogor, also recommends to consume 200 ml of boiled extract of leaves of soursop 2 times a day to rid the cancer from the body.

Dosages that have been tested are:
10 dark green leaves of soursop washed, boiled in 3 cups water (600 cc), and left hanging until the remaining one cup of water (200 cc). Once cool, then strained and drunk every morning (there are patients who drink these early in the afternoon).

In effect, the stomach will feel warm / hot, and sweating bodies. Keep in mind that herbal medicine will not cure directly, meaning that after taking a routine for 3-4 weeks a positive effect is visible. The condition of the patient improves, activity can return, and the treatment when checked by lab / doctor turns out to dry the cancer cells, while other cells which grow (hair, nails, etc.) are not at all disturbed.

Keeping The Weight Off

5 Easy Ways To Keep The Weight Off:

Weight loss can be put into two categories.

The first is a fully concentrated effort. This is where you dedicate yourself to counting every calorie and slaving away in the gym or go through a strict diet program. The pounds come off, but once you relax the regimen and continue eating unhealthily the way you used to, your weight goes right back to where it was.

The second is a combination of simple lifestyle changes. This is where you change a few key factors about what you eat and how you exercise, without making it a fulltime job. This type of weight loss is gradual and permanent, since you are able to maintain it long term.
The five simple strategies below all fall into the lifestyle change category. These strategies may seem ridiculously simple, but do them over an extended period of time and you will see amazing, permanent results.

Strategy #1: Ditch Your Diet Soda

Studies are coming out that link diet soda to weight gain.Researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio concluded that those who drank two or more diet soft drinks a day had the largest waistline increases—about five times more than that of non-drinkers. They stated, "Data from this and other prospective studies suggest that the promotion of diet sodas as healthy alternatives may be ill-advised: they may be free of calories, but not of consequences."

Bottom line: Artificial sweeteners are addictive, lead to waistline increases, and cause you to crave sugary foods. By cutting diet soda out of your daily routine, and replacing it with water, you will lose inches and pounds—effortlessly.

Strategy #2: Swap Sandwich Bread for Lettuce

Move over bread, lettuce is better. It's time to re-define your sandwich. While bread has tradition on its side, lettuce wraps offer you weight loss and increased energy. Try the Tasty Tuna Lettuce Wraps recipe in the blog. You can swap the tuna with your favourite protein be it roast chicken, beef or other seafoods.

Bottom line: Eating bread and other starchy foods always leads to extra pounds, so change your ways. Swap your sandwich bread for lettuce for 30 days and see how much you will effortlessly lose. I bet you'll feel more energetic after lunch too.

Strategy #3: Trade Slow Cardio for Intense Intervals

Doing slow cardio will not give you results. In order to really make your workout effective, you need to turn up the intensity. If you love the treadmill, then do a series of sprints throughout your workout. If you're a swimmer, then push yourself extra hard every other lap.

Bottom line: Doing slow, easy cardio will not give you the streamline body you want. Only intense intervals will do that for you. Pepper your workout with bouts of intense cardio and watch as the fat starts to disappear.

Strategy #4: Avoid Sugar 99% Of The Time, use natural sweetener such as pure Stevia instead if you must sweeten your food and drinks.

Sugar will cause you to gain weight every single time. There's really no way around that simple truth. Sugar is standing between you and your perfect body. If you're serious about looking and feeling great, then understand that sugar has no place in your diet.

Bottom line: If you avoid sugar 99% of the time, then you will be on your way to a lean and energetic body. If it's your birthday or a special holiday, then partake in a small amount of sugar, but make that the exception and not the rule.

Strategy #5: Exercise Regularly

People who work with a personal trainer can get better results than those who attempt to do it on their own simply because with each workout the trainer will push you to your limits, challenge your body and help you achieve the results you're looking for. Consistency and intensity of your exercise are important be it on your own or with a trainer, in long term weight management.

Diet-33 Meal Ideas When Eating Out

Not everyone has the time or the benefits of preparing their own meals whilst on this diet. Hence, it is not an easy feat to be "Perfectly On Protocol" (POP) as laid out by Dr Simeons.

I would like to share some of my eating out meals that can be considered should you absolutely need to find fast and easy hcg friendly meals especially during busy days, official business luncheon or travelling or even when you get so bored with your own cooking and needed a break by having a tasty restaurant meals. These suggestions will not be POP but if you are willing to take the risk of either a weight gain or a stall, then it's something that you can perhaps consider. Obviously, everybody will have a different reaction to a slight cheat or not POP meals but from my own experience, I would still get some weight loss with eating out, majority of the time although the rate is not as fantastic as when I am POP.

Be mindful that despite eating out you must adhere to the 100 gm protein limit per meal and not mixing the vegetable choices to be close to protocol.

Some of the possible meals you may want to consider are:-

At Chicken Rice Stalls/Local & Chinese Restaurants:
1. A roasted or steamed chicken breast to be eaten with just fresh salad or cucumber or tomatoes; Without the skin, rice, soy sauce and sweet chillies.

At Mexican/Fusion Restaurants such as Las Carretas, Chillis, HRC etc:
2. A half portion of grilled fajitas either beef or chicken to be eaten with just fresh salad/lettuce; Without the tortillas and accompanying dressings ie cheese, beans, avocados etc. Request them to replace these with extra salad/lettuce. Normally, full meal has to be shared by two persons as the protein portion will exceed 100gm if you eat a full portion by yourselves.

At Thai Stalls/Local Restaurants:
3. A bowl of Tom Yum Prawn or Chicken cooked with just tomatoes and fresh herbs. Request for the cook to omit sugar, MSG and any other vegetables in preparing the broth. Thai food normally has a sweet, sour and salty combination hence will have sugar and MSG.

At Middle Eastern and Indian Restaurants:
4. Chicken breast or Prawn cooked as Kebabs or Tandoori style or Grilled. These normally have some spices which are allowed but do have yogurt as well which is not POP. Request them to serve your protein with either salad or tomatoes or cucumber, do not mix the veges. If they can't accommodate, just pick the vege type that you want to eat.

At Local Food/Ikan Bakar Stalls/Restaurants:
5. Grilled Snapper, Tilapia or other white fish marinated in just tumeric and/or salts. To be eaten with POP vegetable choices such as fresh salad or cucumber or tomato or if you have no other choices, stir fried cabbage or spinach. These stir fried vegetables are preferably to be avoided as these would have been cooked with oil and MSG.

6. If you can't find any Grilled Fish at a local stalls or Restaurants then you may want to consider taking white fish or beef or prawn or chicken cooked in broth such as soup or Asam Pedas/Spicy Sour Soup, curry, rendang, coconut milk, sambal etc and omitting the broth/gravy. You can wipe off the broth/gravy with a clean tissue.

At Japanese Restaurants:
7. Grilled Cod or Beef or Chicken or Prawn with Asparagus or Spinach. Request to have it prepared plain with just salt and pepper, omit the gravy such teriyaki etc. You may want to also consider having Cod Fish cooked in broth Sukiyaki style with chinese cabbage. Request them to omit any other not POP veges and items from the broth. Get just fresh salad if they don't have other protocol friendly veges to go with your protein.

At Western Restaurants and/or Sandwich Outlets such as Subway:
8. Grilled/Roasted Beef Steak or Chicken or Prawn; Without the accompanying potatoes and other not POP veges. Just request for fresh salad or grilled tomato or sauteed spinach as replacement for the side dishes you omitted.

At Speciality Chicken Grilled/Barbecue/Roasted etc. Restaurants & Outlets eg. Ayamas, Kenny Rogers, Nandos.
9. Roasted Chicken breast with fresh salad or tomato or cucumber. Request for them not to mix the accompanying salad with other veges. If they can't accommodate your request, you may want to just pick the vege type that you want to eat that is listed as protocol friendly.

ALRIGHT...I hope that should in some way help you in making intelligent food choices when eating out to ensure that you are as POP as you can possibly be. Of course, it will still be considered as a cheat given that the preparation would not be as POP as when you prepare the meals yourselves. But we all have limitations at certain times so, just do the best you can in staying POP. My best wishes to you!

Benefits of L-Arginine

Source: www.smart-publications.com. Please refer to this web page for more info. Various publications and articles are also available as additional information on the pros and cons of L-Arginine as a supplement.

L-Arginine, the Prosexual Nutrient with Numerous Health Benefits

It's a disorder no one wants to talk about, yet according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 43% of women and 31% of men suffer from sexual dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction is broadly defined as the inability to fully enjoy sexual intercourse. Women generally experience it as loss of libido (sexual drive) and/or the inability or difficulty in achieving an orgasm. Men experience it as impotence, known technically as erectile dysfunction.

Based on hundreds of studies, L-arginine, an essential amino acid and one of the building blocks of proteins in the body, has become known as a safe and effective prosexual nutrient for men and women.

Here's why:
L-Arginine is a precursor of nitric oxide (NO) in the human body. In the 1990s, scientists discovered that not only is NO an essential compound that helps blood circulation, but it is important to normal sexual function in both men and women. Without arginine there would be no NO, and without NO, men would not be able to have erections.

How L-Arginine works
Insufficient blood flow is a major cause of incomplete erection in men. L-Arginine has been shown to improve blood flow to the genital area by dilating blood vessels and helping the penis to enlarge to its full capacity, thus increasing the size, hardness, and frequency of erections.

Nutritional expert, Dr. Jonathan Wright, explains the mechanism in men: "Molecules of NO are generated when an enzyme called NO synthase (NOS)—which is abundant in the nerve and muscle cells in and around the penis—strips away a nitrogen atom (N) from a passing molecule of the amino acid L-Arginine … and combines it with an atom of oxygen (O).

In other words, in order to produce nitric oxide in the body, a nitrogen atom must combine with an oxygen molecule in the blood. The enzyme called nitric oxide synthase controls this reaction.

L-Arginine has a similar effect in women
Higher blood flow makes clitoral and vaginal tissues more sensitive and responsive to sexual stimulation and helps increase the possibility of reaching orgasm. Although there haven't been nearly as many studies done on arginine supplementation in women as in men, one study found that postmenopausal women who took a supplement including L-Arginine experienced heightened sexual response.

Another study involving 77 women of all ages found that after four weeks, 73.5% of the women who took a supplement including L-Arginine experienced greater sexual satisfaction, including heightened desire and clitoral sensation, frequency of intercourse and orgasm, and less vaginal dryness.

Stronger libido ... greater endurance
Both men and women report that L-Arginine seems to increase their libido or desire for sex, and some also report that L-Arginine gives them greater endurance and stronger, more powerful orgasms. Reports also suggest that L-Arginine supplements can improve fertility in men who have low sperm counts or poor sperm motility (activity).

Scientific studies
The powerful effect of L-Arginine was illustrated in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in the British Journal of Urology International in which researchers evaluated the nitric oxide levels of 50 men with erectile dysfunction. The men were given either L-Arginine or a placebo for six weeks. Nine of the 29 men (31%) given L-Arginine reported a significant improvement in their sexual performance. These nine men had low nitric oxide levels at the start of the trial, but their levels doubled by the end of the study.

It is important to note, however, that erectile dysfunction can be caused by a variety of factors, including aging, diabetes and other endocrine disorders. L-Arginine may be effective only in those men whose erectile dysfunction is due to low levels of nitric oxide. In fact, in one study in which the participants suffered from impotence for a variety of reasons, L-Arginine was found to be effective in only 17% of the patients. However, optimal nitric oxide production will ensure optimum erectile function, and for many people with sexual dysfunction not related to an underlying disease, arginine supplements will ensure adequate nitric oxide levels.

Animal studies
Studies done on animals provide some evidence for effectiveness as well. In a laboratory study, two groups of rats were given free access to L-Arginine which was dissolved in their drinking water. Both groups had greater serum and penile concentrations of arginine, and exhibited a significant increase in intra-penile pressure or "hardness."

Serum and penile tissue levels of L-Arginine in the treated rats were increased by 64 - 148% compared to control animals. The penile nitric oxide levels also increased nearly 100% in the L-Arginine treated groups compared to the control groups. The researchers concluded that these data support the use of dietary supplements for treatment of erectile dysfunction.

The positive benefits of arginine go beyond sexual enhancement
This remarkable amino acid helps build muscle mass, enhance immune function, improve blood pressure, increase memory, and speed wound healing. Arginine-derived nitric oxide has also been found to play a supporting role in the cardiovascular, immune, and nervous systems and has been validated by hundreds of studies.

L-Arginine is essential to several systems in the body. Among its many roles, L-Arginine:

Is a precursor of nitric oxide (NO)
Promotes circulation resulting in improved blood flow
Stimulates the release of growth hormone
Improves immune function
Reduces healing time of injuries
Plays a role in the formation of bone and tendons
Increases muscle mass, while reducing body fat
Supports male fertility, improving sperm production and motility
Reduces risk of blood clots and stroke
Supports normal blood pressure
Improves vascular function for patients with angina
Helps recovery after heart attack
Helps prevent and treat cardiovascular disease
Helps reduce growth of cancerous tumors

Timing and contraindications
L-Arginine users say they can achieve a prosexual effect by taking it 45 minutes before sex.

There are few reported side effects. The most notable is:
People with herpes - L-Arginine may increase the severity of outbreaks, but some reports indicate that it may also enhance your immune function enough so you are less likely to get herpes outbreaks.

L-Arginine is an excellent supplement for anyone wanting to increase his or her sexual arousal, improve performance, and overall health. The huge advantage this natural and safe supplement has over Viagra is that men and women can take it, it's considerably less expensive (Viagra costs as much as US$10 a pill!), it's been proven to work in numerous double-blind studies, and it has no major known side effects.

Benefits of Fish/Marine Collagen

Marine collagen is a material derived from the substance found on fish scales. It has been widely used in Japan for many years as a natural supplement. People who use marine collagen claim it has various benefits, which include healthier bones and skin.

The reason why collagen products are so popular is that increased collagen can make the body function more effectively. Collagen production is vital to healthy skin, hair, bones and joints. Reduced levels of collagen are especially noticeable in the skin because the skin loses its elasticity and becomes prone to sagging with age. Some people choose products with collagen in them to assist the skin in becoming firmer and softer. Often, vitamin makers will put collagen in with vitamins as an extra bonus for skin, hair and nails.

Since marine collagen is becoming widely marketed in skin products, more people are turning to this natural substance for its purported anti-aging benefits. While the appearance and texture of skin is partially determined by genetics, certain detrimental factors affect a person’s skin such as environmental toxins, diet and smoking. Some consumers think using marine collagen may help them diminish the signs of aging and decrease the negative effects of toxins.

Fish collagen is also being used in hair products for added shine and thicker hair. Advantages of marine collagen supplements is that the substance is odorless and tasteless. There have not been any reported side effects and it is considered a safe substance. Since the use of this particular collagen is still relatively new, there have not been enough studies conducted to determine the long-term safety of the product. With any new supplement, it is best to use it in cautionary amounts in order to see how the body will react to it.

Even if a skin care product contains all natural ingredients, it can still cause the user to have skin irritation. People who have sensitive skin may need to use a small amount of the collagen cream or lotion to make sure there are not any allergic reactions. Signs of an allergic reaction to any product include redness, bumps and overly dry skin.

Benefits of Acai Berry

Acai Berries and Acai Berry Juice -- What Are the Health Benefits?

Have you heard about the acai berry? Acai berries are highly touted by marketers who say it’s one of the elite superfoods with anti-aging and weight loss properties. Some manufacturers use acai berries in cosmetics and beauty products.

What is the acai berry?

The acai berry is an inch-long reddish, purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree (Euterpe oleracea), which is native to Central and South America.

Research on the acai berry has focused on its possible antioxidant activity. Theoretically, that activity may help prevent diseases caused by oxidative stress such as heart disease and cancer.

Is the acai berry healthy?

Acai contains several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids. The word anthocyanin comes from two Greek words meaning “plant” and “blue.” Anthocyanins are responsible for the red, purple, and blue hues in many fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Foods that are richest in anthocyanins -- such as blueberries, red grapes, red wine, and acai -- are very strongly colored, ranging from deep purple to black.

Anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help defend the body against life's stressors. They also play a role in the body's cell protection system. Free radicals are harmful byproducts produced by the body. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants may interfere with aging and the disease process by neutralizing free radicals.

By lessening the destructive power of free radicals, antioxidants may help reduce the risk of some diseases, such as heart disease and cancer.

Are there known health benefits of acai berries?

Some studies show that acai fruit pulp has a very high antioxidant capacity with even more antioxidant content than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry. Studies are ongoing, though, and the jury is still out. People eat acai berries because of its high antioxidant properties to address various health conditions.

Can acai berries boost weight loss?

Scientists are learning more about the functional power of superfoods, such as the acai berry. Although acai is touted in some weight loss products, few studies have tested the benefit of acai in promoting weight loss.

For now, plenty of research supports eating a diet rich in antioxidants. There’s no doubt that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet promoting weight loss. The jury’s still out on whether there is something special about acai’s ability to shed excess pounds.

Why are acai berries used in beauty products?

Some cosmetics and beauty products contain acai oil in the ingredient list. That’s because acai oil is a powerhouse of antioxidants. Studies show that acai oil may be a safe alternative to other tropical oils used in beauty products such as facial and body creams, anti-aging skin therapies, shampoos and conditioners, and other products. When acai oil is processed and stored long-term, the antioxidant levels remain high.

Do acai berries and acai juice have any side effects?

If you have pollen allergies or have a known hypersensitivity to acai or similar berries, you may want to avoid this fruit. When eaten in moderate amounts, though, acai is likely safe.

Benefits of Pine Bark & Grape Seed Extract

Pine Bark and Grape Seed

Substances found in pine bark and grape seed are proving to have powerful health benefits. We’ve read about it in magazines, seen it on TV shows such as 60 Minutes, and heard about it on the radio. The French, who have a high-fat diet and a national cuisine based on butter, who drink wine with meals, and who take pride in smoking non-filtered cigarettes, live longer than the citizens of many other countries. This is known as the French paradox: that despite a lifestyle that would bring out the health police in North America, the French are, well, healthy.

Most experts agree that this health contradiction is due to their habits of drinking red wine as wine contains substances known as flavonoids, which are proving to have many health benefits. And they must be strong; after all, they appear to overcome a lot of bad dietary habits in France!

However, we now know of two other substances that provide the same flavonoid punch. These are grape seed extract and pine bark extract. Both of these contain a type of flavonoid known as oligomers of proanthocyanidins, or OPCs.

Powerful antioxidants

OPCs are powerful antioxidants. They are, thus, a major force in the war against free radicals, which are dangerous molecules linked to health problems such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, cataracts, and immune disorders.

In a review of the benefits of the OPCs found in grape seed extract, Bombardelli and Morazzoni (Fitoterapia, 66, no. 4 [1995]) note that OPCs’ antioxidant effects are generally credited for their other benefits. The authors note that these include an antimutagenic effect; that is, they inhibit the mutation of DNA. The authors point out that chronic degenerative diseases are believed to be a result of environmental mutagens (substances that cause mutation). OPCs may be able to counter these mutagens.

The same report notes that OPCs have a positive effect on peripheral venous insufficiency. This is a leg vein problem that causes increasing pain and disability for many thousands of people, the majority of them women. OPCs were shown to reduce pain, cramps, edema (swelling due to fluids), and "pins and needles."

Indeed, OPCs are well-known for their effect on the cardiovascular system. Richard Passwater, Ph.D., in his book, All About Pycnogenol, cites a number of benefits generated from the OPCs found in pine bark. These include fighting cholesterol and protecting against heart disease, protecting against high blood pressure, improving circulation, and strengthening the capillaries. Passwater also notes that OPCs are an immune booster and may protect against cancer through their antioxidant potency, boosting the immune system and reducing metastasis, the process cancer cells use to travel through the blood stream and attach themselves to other organs.

OPCs also have "cosmetic" value. They protect collagen and elastin, which are an important part of the makeup of skin. It is the interlacing of collagen and elastin that gives skin its strength, elasticity, and smoothness. When these two substances are damaged, the skin loses elasticity— the result can be wrinkles. OPCs help restore damaged collagen and elastin and protect them against further damage. You could say that OPCs are an oral cosmetic to keep skin healthy.

Some health practitioners have found OPCs to be beneficial in dealing with attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). Passwater notes that he has received a number of case histories documenting this. Pamela Sleeth, a chiropractor in Newmarket, Ontario, has used OPCs in her practice with remarkable results. She notes that parents and teachers alike have commented on the increased attentiveness that children have displayed after using OPCs.

So, try grape seed and pine bark extracts.

Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

Source from: homeremediesweb.com. Please refer to this web page for more info.

What is Coconut Oil?
Coconut Oil is extracted from the nut of the Coconut Palm tree. When the oil is derived from fresh coconut, without going through any chemical processing or bleaching, it is called Virgin Coconut Oil. An important fatty acid in Virgin Coconut Oil known as lauric acid has been found to have anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities. It can be used both externally and internally, which makes it very versatile. For example, it can be used as a cooking oil, but also as a skin moisturizer and as a key ingredient in soap, hair products, health supplements, and cosmetics.

What are the Benefits of Coconut Oil?
The nutritional properties of Coconut Oil make it a great herbal remedy for many health conditions. Studies have shown that Coconut Oil may help with hair problems, skin infections, stress, imbalanced cholesterol levels, weakened immune system, digestive problems, kidney problems, cardiovascular diseases, low blood pressure, diabetes, muscular strain, and rheumatoid arthritis. Studies have also shown that Coconut Oil enhances thyroid production, as well as fights fungi and yeasts that cause candidiasis, ringworm, tapeworms, athlete's foot, thrush, diaper rash, lice and other infections and parasites. Coconut Oil is known to help with the absorption of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in the body which enhances physical performance, endurance and boosts energy levels.

Uses of Coconut Oil

Age Spots
A study has shown that regular use of Coconut Oil can help prevent and even diminish the appearance of Age Spots (also known as Sun Spots and Liver Spots). This is accomplished due to the anti-oxidant properties of Coconut oil, which fight against the oxidation of polyunsaturated fats and protein by free radical activity as a result of aging and over exposure to sunlight. Therefore a simple remedy for Age Spots is to massage a small amount of Coconut Oil into the affected areas several times daily until the spots fade away.

Athlete's Foot and Plantar Warts
Coconut Oil's antiparasitic and antiprotozoal activity help treat skin infections such as Plantar Warts and Athlete's Foot. By combining Coconut Oil with the anti-fungal and anti-bacterial power of Garlic, an excellent remedy to treat these conditions is as follows:

Crush one whole peeled bulb of Garlic and mix it with one tablespoon of Coconut Oil.
Rub the mixture onto the affected skin area twice a day (once in the morning, and once before going to bed).

To prevent the garlic odor from affecting the bed sheets, a thin pair of cotton socks can be worn at bedtime.

Chapped Lips
Coconut Oil is a fantastic natural alternative to chapsticks when you have chapped lips. The oil is easily absorbed into the layers of skin and into the cell structures of our lips, keeping them strong and supple. Therefore, simply apply a small amount of lukewarm Virgin Coconut Oil onto your lips whenever they feel dry. It is recommended to start applying the oil several times daily when cold and dry weather sets in, to help keep the lips soft and pliable.

Diabetes
Virgin Coconut Oil helps treat diabetes by balancing the blood sugar levels and insulin secretion in our body. A recommended dosage is 1 tablespoon of Coconut Oil taken 2 to 3 times daily. It can be used as an alternative to regular cooking oil when preparing meals.

Dry and Damaged Hair
Coconut oil is one of the best known natural conditioners for hair. The essential proteins and fats in the oil can help ensure that the scalp is free of dandruff and to repair dry/damaged hair. Therefore, a simple remedy for dandruff and dry hair is to massage Virgin Coconut Oil into the hair and scalp 30-minutes before taking a shower. It is safe (and even beneficial) to let coconut oil remain in the hair for up to 3 hours, but 30 minutes is usually sufficient.

Cardiovascular Health
Coconut oil is beneficial for our heart and overall cardiovascular system. The key ingredient is lauric acid, which helps balance cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Studies have shown that populations that consume coconut oil regularly have lower rates of heart disease compared to the groups using regular vegetable oil when preparing meals. Therefore, you can try replacing your current cooking oil with Coconut Oil when appropriate.

Skin Problems
The key ingredient of Coconut Oil, lauric acid, makes it a great natural antiviral, antibacterial and antiprozoal agent. The small molecular structure of Coconut Oil smoothly penetrates through the layers of skin and keeps connective tissues strong and supple so that the skin doesn't dry, sag and wrinkle. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory properties of Coconut Oil help reduce chronic skin inflammation. Therefore, a natural remedy for many skin problems including wrinkles, dry skin, cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, and eczema is to apply Coconut Oil to the affected area several times per day.

What are the Side Effects of Coconut Oil?
Coconut Oil is fairly safe for both internal and external consumption when used in moderation. An overdose of coconut oil can cause diarrhea. Coconut Oil, like many other oils, is also high in calories, so this should always be taken into consideration. Therefore, the recommended daily dosage is 1 to 3 tablespoons when the oil is used for therapeutic purposes.

Where and How to Buy Coconut Oil?
Coconut Oil can be purchased at most grocery and health food stores. When buying, look for cold pressed Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. Virgin Coconut Oil is extracted from fresh coconut flesh and retains many of the important nutrients compared to regular Coconut Oil which is derived from the dried fruit.

Health Benefits of Honey

"And your Lord revealed to the bee saying: Make hives in the mountains and in the trees and in what they build: Then eat of all the fruits and walk in the ways of your Lord submissively. There comes forth from within it a beverage of many colours, in which there is healing for men; most surely there is a sign in this for people who reflect. (Surat an-Nahl, 68-69 Al Quran)

Honey is a sweet treat. In fact, it is man's oldest sweetener. It can be a good substitute for sugar in our drinks and food. But it is also good for many other things and treating many other conditions. Reliance on commercialized medicines which contains too much chemicals can become hazardous to our health. Alhamdullilah, Allah has given us the knowledge that Mother Nature can at least help to ease the pain we are suffering from. ( Source: www.islamic-world.net)

The following excerpt is sourced from : www.homeremedies.com. Please refer to this web page for more info.

What is Honey?
Honey has been considered a wonderful healing agent for ages. It is a sweet and viscous fluid made by honey bees from the nectar of flowers. Honey comes in a variety of colors, from almost white down to darker colors such as amber, red, or brown. Honey is an amazing antibacterial substance which is comprised of sugars like glucose and fructose and minerals (like magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium chlorine, sulphur, iron and phosphate), vitamins (such as B1, B2, C, B6, B5, B3), trace elements (like copper, iodine, and zinc) as well as amino acids. The nutritional properties, color and flavour of honey are determined by the types of flowers the bees pollinate.

What are the Benefits of Honey?
Honey contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, and therefore is a wonderful beauty aid that nourishes the skin and the hair. Honey also acts as an antibacterial and antifungal agent and helps disinfect and speed the healing process in wounds, scrapes and burns.

Scientific research from the University of California, Davis has also revealed that honey consumption raises our protective antioxidant levels. Antioxidants combat the free radicals which can damage cells.

Uses of Honey

Cold and Sore Throat Home Remedy
Honey is considered to be one of the best natural remedies for sore throats, coughs and general cold symptoms. Honey has long been used in various natural sore throat remedies ranging from teas to syrups. Even today many commercial preparations for sore throats and coughs (such as lozenges) are still primarily based on honey. For a simple and natural remedy to a cold or sore throat, take one teaspoon of honey twice a day until cured. If your cold or sore throat persists for longer than 5 days, you should contact your doctor.

Honey as a Beauty Aid

Cleansing Scrub: Honey mixed with ground almonds makes an excellent facial cleansing scrub.

Skin Firming Mask: A tablespoon of honey whisked together with an egg white, 1 teaspoon of glycerin and about 1/4 cup of flour makes an excellent firming mask. Just smooth on the face, leave on 15 minutes, and rinse off with warm water. You will be pleased with the results.

Skin Moisturizer: Honey also makes a great moisturizing pack. Just mix 2 tablespoons of honey with 2 teaspoons of whole milk, smooth over the face and throat, and let it do its job for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, and finish splashing with cold water.

Lotion for Dry Patches: Honey also makes a great lotion for dry patches of skin on hands, elbows, or other parts. Just mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and a 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply to hands, elbows, heels of your foot, etc., and wash off after 15 minutes. Fast relief!

Cure for Chapped Lips and Acne: Honey works well on chapped lips and for acne because it has antibacterial properties.

Conditioner for Dull Hair: To give your hair lustrous shine, mix 1 teaspoon of honey into 4 cups of warm water. Use as a hair rinse. And if you're a blond, add the juice of 1 lemon, too.

Antibacterial Mouthwash: Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with a cup of warm water. Use it as a mouthwash. Honey cleans teeth and dentures, and kills germs in the mouth.

What are the Side Effects of Honey?

There are no known regular side effects to honey when used in moderation. However, it is recommended that raw honey not be fed to infants under the age of one year. This is due to the potential for honey to carry C. botulinum spores which may be harmful to the undeveloped immune systems of infants.

Where and How to Buy Honey?

There are two primary things to keep in mind when purchasing honey for nutritional purposes. First, dark colored honey, such as buckwheat honey, is generally thought to contain higher levels of antioxidants than the lighter colored varieties. Second, raw or unprocessed honey contains the widest variety of health-supportive substances. Any added sugar is simply a non-nutritive empty calorie that robs the body of vitamins and minerals.

While both types are known for their therapeutic effects, the Ceylon cinnamon is slightly sweeter and is therefore considered to be of higher quality.

Health Benefits of Green Tea

Source: www.homeremedies.com. Please refer to this web page for more info.

What is Green Tea?

Green Tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. What makes green tea unique compare to other black and oolong teas is the processing procedure: Green tea leaves are steamed instead of fermented, which prevents the beneficial compounds from being oxidized.

What are the Benefits of Green Tea?

The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. Recent research has now shown that green tea contains an active ingredient called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) that has powerful anti-oxidant properties. Green tea also contains Catechin Polyphenols which have anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer properties. Other important ingredients include caffeine, tannin (flavonols), theophylline, theobromine, saponins, carotene, vitamins (A,C,B1,B12,K,P), flouride, iron, magnesium, calcium, strontium, copper, nickel, and zinc. As a result, green tea is effective in treating a number of common conditions including:

Lowering LDL cholesterol
Treating high blood pressure
Preventing strokes (by inhibiting the formation of abnormal blood clots)
Reducing the chance of developing certain cancers
Strengthening the immune system
Promote fat loss
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Diabetes
Colds
Food poisoning

Uses of Green Tea

Cancer Prevention
A number of studies have shown that Green Tea plays a role in decreasing the development, onset, or progression of certain cancers (Breast, Ovarian, Bladder, Lung, Esophageal, Prostate, Pancreatic, Colon). Therefore, taking up to 5 cups of Green Tea daily may help prevent or slow the progression of this disease. Consult your doctor if you feel that this may be beneficial for you.

Dental Plaque
Green Tea contains fluoride, a mineral that helps prevents cavities and strengthens tooth enamel. Therefore, a cup of tea each day can help reduce plaque formation and bacterial infections in the mouth.

High Cholesterol
A recent study suggests that the polyphenols in Green Tea may block the absorption of cholesterol by the intestines and instead promote its excretion from the body. Therefore, a good remedy for high cholesterol is to take a cup of Green Tea each day. This may help reduce the levels of LDL (bad) cholestrol while raising the HDL (good) cholestrol level.

Indigestion and Food Poisoning
Green Tea encourages bowel regularity, which makes it an excellent home remedy for indigestion and upset stomaches due to food poisoning. Simply take a cup of Green Tea with half a lemon squeezed in it twice per day.

Strengthen the Immune System
The antioxidant properties of green tea have been found to be almost one-hundred times more effective than Vitamin C and twenty-five times better than vitamin E in protecting our immune systems. Therefore, to boost the immune system simple take a cup of Green Tea and add one teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to it each day. The Vitamin C from the lemon helps boost the antioxidant properties of the tea.

Toothache
The Catechin Polyphenols in Green Tea have anti-inflammatory properties which can help treat infections and inflammation. Therefore, a simple remedy to alleviate a toothache is to take 2 cups of Green Tea daily while symptoms exist. Green tea supplements (such as capsules) can also be used as directed on the package.

Weight Loss
A study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland showed that men who were given a Green Tea supplement (with combination of 50mg caffeine and 90mg EGCG) burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo. The benefits come from an interaction between the caffeine and the EGCG in green tea, resulting in the production of the metabolism-boosting, appetite- suppressing hormone noradrenaline. The results suggested that individuals may lose up to 2.5 pounds per month when green tea was combined with a regular exercise routine. Therefore, a recommended natural remedy for weight loss is:

Take a green tea supplement (capsule or tablet) that contains 50mg of caffeine and 90mg of EGCG three times per day before meals.
Perform a 30-minute exercise routine three times per week (10 minutes of strength training followed by 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise such as jogging, biking, or elliptical)

What are the Side Effects of Green Tea?
Green tea is safe for most individuals if taken in moderation and is not mixed with any other medications or herbs. The recommended daily dosage for adults is 2-3 cups of tea (or 100-750 mg per day of standardized green tea extract). Since green tea contains caffeine, one common side effect is nervousness or insomnia in individuals who are sensitive to caffeine. If you are currently being treated for any heart problems, anxiety, depression, or if you are taking blood thinners, you should consult your doctor before using green tea on a regular basis since green tea can interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications.

Where and How to Buy Green Tea
Green tea can be found in most natural health food/nutrition stores and most supermarkets. Most green tea dietary supplements are sold as dried leaves in a capsule form. Standardized extracts of green tea are also available. The most popular form of Green Tea is in a tea bag form. The average cup of green tea contains 50 to 150 mg polyphenols (antioxidants). Caffeine-free tea bags and supplements are also often available in many herbal food stores for those that are sensitive to caffeine.

Health Benefits of Garlic

Source: www.homeremediesweb.com. Please refer to this web page for more info.

What is Garlic?
Garlic (Allium Sativum) is a plant with a very strong and bitter flavor which has been used for both culinary and medical purposes for hundreds of years. The key medicinal ingredient in garlic is allicin, which is known to have wonderful anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant properties.

What are the Benefits of Garlic?
Garlic can be used to treat high cholestrol, parasites, respiratory problems, poor digestion, and low energy. Studies suggest that regularly eating garlic helps lower blood pressure, controls blood sugar and blood cholesterol, and boosts the immune system. It has also been found to reduce the risk of esophageal, stomach, and colon cancer.

Note that it is not recommended to take garlic in its raw form, since the enzyme necessary to produce allicin may be destroyed in the stomach before having any positive effect. For this reason, dried or powdered garlic tablets are more suitable to take advantage of garlic's immune-boosting qualities. Studies have shown that other forms of garlic such as cooked garlic, pickled garlic, and aged garlic are also beneficial.

Uses of Garlic

Allergies
Garlic is known to have antiviral properties, which helps the body fight against allergies. Simply take one tablet of garlic supplement each day 2 or 3 weeks before the usual allergy season begins.

Coughing
Garlic's antibacterial properties make it a wonderful treatment for coughs and other throat irritations. Garlic may also reduce the severity of upper respiratory tract infections.

Diabetes
Garlic is considered to regulate blood sugar levels by increasing the release of insulin in diabetics. Therefore an effective remedy is to take one capsule or tablet of garlic everyday.

High Blood Pressure
Clinical studies have shown that people with high blood pressure who took garlic capsules daily for up to five months lowered their blood pressure levels as effectively as patients taking prescription blood pressure drugs. A suggested dosage is 600-900mg garlic capsules once daily.

High Cholesterol
Studies have shown that taking 600-900mg of garlic everyday lowers cholesterol levels and reduces arterial plaque formation by 5–18%. Therefore, an effective natural remedy is to take one garlic tablet or capsule (600-900mg) once per day.

Toothaches
Garlic's antibacterial, analgesic, and anesthetizing properties can help cure toothaches. Simply put some garlic oil or a piece of crushed garlic clove directly onto the affected tooth and the gum for instant relief.

Warts
Garlic's ability to fight infections and bacteria makes it an effective cure for warts and other skin problems.
Take a fresh clove of garlic and cut its tip off.
Rub the cut area of the clove directly onto the wart for a few seconds.
Repeat this each night before going to bed until the wart disappears.
If you feel any kind of irritation or strong burning sensation, simply rinse the area with water.

What are the Side Effects of Garlic?

For most individuals, garlic does not cause any serious side effects. However people who are allergic to garlic or who consume it in large quantities may suffer from stomach irritation, heartburn, or flatulence. Garlic appears to be safe during pregnancy and breast-feeding. In fact, two studies have shown that babies prefer breast milk better from mothers who regularly eat garlic.

Note that due to garlic's anti-clotting and blood thinning properties, people taking anti-coagulant drugs or who are scheduled for surgery should check with their doctor before taking garlic supplements.

Where and How to Buy Garlic?

Fresh garlic and garlic powder can be bought at regular grocery stores. Garlic supplements are available in the form of tablets, capsules, extracts, and oils and can be purchased at most health food stores.

Health Benefits of Tumeric

Source: www.homeremediesweb.com (for details please refer to this web page)

What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is a perennial plant of the ginger family, and its mustard yellow powder is commonly used as a culinary spice in South Asia. However, Turmeric also has an active medicinal ingredient called Curcumin which has many anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial properties.

What are the Benefits of Turmeric?
The health benefits of Turmeric have been recognized by Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for hundreds of years. It has been used to treat everyday problems such as indigestion and flatulence, as well as more serious problems such as arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV, high cholesterol, heartburn, jaundice, liver disorders, and menstrual disorders. Turmeric can also be applied topically in poultices to reduce inflammation and to relieve wounds, cuts, and bruises.

Uses of Turmeric:

Alzheimer's Disease
Inflammation inside of the brain has been suspected to be one of the contributing factors in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Studies have shown that Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity. Therefore, regular daily consumption of Turmeric capsules may be an effective way to prevent the onset of Alzheimer's.

Arthritis
Due to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, it is not surprising that Turmeric is now being used as an effective natural remedy for Arthritis pain. Therefore, taking 500mg to 1000mg Turmeric capsules three times per day may provide significant relief from osteoarthritis pain.

Asthma
Since turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, it can help reduce the inflammation associated with asthma. Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk, and drink this mixture as an effective asthma home remedy.

Cancer
Several recent studies have found that Turmeric can induce apoptosis, a process that triggers the self-destruction and elimination of damaged (cancerous) cells. Further research is still required before the full effects of Turmeric on cancer cells can be determined. However, existing studies suggest that daily Turmeric powder or supplements combined with a balanced, nutritious diet may help prevent or even destroy cancer cells.

Colds and Flu
Turmeric's anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal agents can help our body fight against colds, cough and flu. Therefore, when symptoms of these infections are present, simply mix one teaspoon of Turmeric powder into a glass of warm milk once per day. Also drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Diabetes
Recent studies have shown that the antioxidant agents in Turmeric help reduce insulin resistance, which may prevent the onset of Type-2 Diabetes. Therefore, a simple preventive remedy is to take one teaspoon of turmeric powder twice a day with meals. Curcumin extracts or capsules can also be used as an alternative to the powder.

Inflammation
Turmeric's key ingredient Curcumin is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, Turmeric powder can help in healing cuts, wounds, and other skin infections including boils.

Heat one cup of Flax Seed Oil in a small saucepan on the stove.
Thinly slice a small onion and add it to the hot oil.
Fry the onions until they are dark brown and crunchy.
Remove the brown onions and mix 2 tablespoons of Turmeric powder into the oil.
Turn off the stove and let the oil cool down to a temperature that is comfortable to touch.
Using a cotton swab, apply a small amount of the oil onto the injured or infected skin area.
Apply this three times per day until the wound or infection is cured.
Save the remaining oil into an airtight container for future use.
For internal injuries, fractures, sprains, and herniated disks, dip a piece of unbleached cotton fabric into the warm Turmeric oil. The fabric or cotton pad should be large enough to cover the outer skin of the affected area. Secure it in place and leave this cotton pad on overnight.

You can also add one teaspoon of turmeric powder into a warm glass of milk and drink it before going to bed to prevent internal inflammation and infections.

Weight Loss
Curcumin in Turmeric powder has been found to help increase the flow of bile, an important component in the breakdown of dietary fat. Therefore, taking one teaspoon of Turmeric powder with every meal may be an effective weight loss aid when combined with a healthy diet and exercise program.

What are the Side Effects of Turmeric?
Moderate use of Turmeric powder as part of regular diet is fairly safe, and recent studies have found that a dosage of 500mg capsules of Turmeric three times per day is safe. However, prolonged consumption of high doses of Turmeric extract may cause stomach or liver distress, as well as dehydration and constipation. Therefore, it should be avoided by people with gallstones or bile obstructions. If you are currently taking blood thinners (including Aspirin), you should consult your doctor before taking Turmeric since it is an anti-platelet (prevents blood clots).

Where and How to Buy Turmeric?
Turmeric powder can be purchased at many Asian grocery stores. However, Curcumin concentrations can be up to 18 times higher in capsules and tablets compared to powdered Turmeric spice. Therefore, Turmeric supplements in capsules form which can be found in many natural or health food stores are recommended for maximal health benefits.

Heart Health - What To Do

Some of us may already know the information below. But no harm in sharing and posting it for those still in search of knowledge on heart health.

The source is actually from a Q & A with Dr. Devi Shetty, Narayana Hrudayalaya(Heart Specialist) Bangalore. A chat with Dr. Devi was arranged by WIPRO for its employees.
The transcript of the chat is below. Useful for everyone.

Qn: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care of his heart?

Ans:
1. Diet - Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less oil
2. Exercise - Half an hour's walk, at least five days a week; avoid lifts and avoid sitting for a longtime
3. Quit smoking
4. Control weight
5. Control blood pressure and sugar

Qn: Is eating non-veg food (fish) good for the heart?

Ans: No

Qn: It's still a grave shock to hear that some apparently healthy person gets a cardiac arrest. How do we understand it in perspective?

Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo routine health checkups.

Qn: Are heart diseases hereditary?

Ans: Yes

Qn: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed? What practices do you suggest to de-stress?

Qn: Is walking better than jogging or is more intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?

Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging leads to early fatigue and injury to joints

Qn: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart diseases?

Ans: Extremely rare.

Qn: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early age?

(I'm currently only 22) or do you have to worry about it only after you are above 30 years of age?

Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.

Qn: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?

Ans: You tend to eat junk food when the habits are irregular and your body's enzyme release for digestion gets confused.

Qn: How can I control cholesterol content without using medicines?

Ans: Control diet, walk and eat walnut.

Qn: Which is the best and worst food for the heart?

Ans: Fruits and vegetables are the best and the worst is oil.

Qn: Which oil is better - groundnut, sunflower, olive?

Ans: All oils are bad .

Qn: What is the routine checkup one should go through? Is there any specific test?

Ans: Routine blood test to ensure sugar, cholesterol is ok. Check BP, Treadmill test after an echo.

Qn: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a heart attack?

Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the first hour.

Qn: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?

Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.

Qn: What is the main cause of a steep increase in heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and serious heart problems.

Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents. Also, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack of exercise in a country where people are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than Europeans and Americans.

Qn: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?

Ans: Yes.

Qn: Marriages within close relatives can lead to heart problems for the child. Is it true?

Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer as a child

Qn: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and many a times we have to stay late nights in office. Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would you recommend?

Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against all these irregularities. However, as you grow older, respect the biological clock.

Qn: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some other complications (short / long term)?

Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However, modern anti-hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.

Qn: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart attacks?

Qn: How can one keep the heart in a good condition?

Ans : Eat a healthy diet, avoid junk food, exercise everyday, do not smoke and, go for health checkups if you are past the age of 30 ( once in six months recommended) ....

Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

The truth about Coconut Oil

You've no doubt noticed that for about the last 60 years, the majority of health care officials and the media have been telling you saturated fats are bad for your health and lead to a host of negative consequences, including high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease.

Meanwhile during this same 60 years, the American levels of heart disease, obesity, elevated serum cholesterol and Alzheimer's have skyrocketed.

Did you know that multiple studies on Pacific Island populations who get 30-60 percent of their total caloric intake from fully saturated coconut oil have all shown nearly non-existent rates of cardiovascular disease? (1)

The fact is, all saturated fats are not created equal.

The operative word here is "created," because some saturated fats occur naturally, while other fats are artificially manipulated into a saturated state through the man-made process called hydrogenation.

Hydrogenation manipulates vegetable and seed oils by adding hydrogen atoms while heating the oil, producing a rancid, thickened substance that really only benefits processed food shelf life and corporate profits -- just about all experts now agree, hydrogenation does nothing good for your health.

These manipulated saturated fats are also called trans-fats -- and you should avoid them like the plague. But if one form of saturated fat is bad for you, does that mean all saturated fat is bad for you?

Absolutely not!

The Tropics' Best Kept Secret

The truth about coconut oil is obvious to anyone who has studied the health of those who live in native tropical cultures, where coconut has been a primary dietary staple for thousands of years.

Back in the 1930s, Dr. Weston Price found South Pacific Islanders whose diets were high in coconut to be healthy and trim, despite high dietary fat, and heart disease was virtually non-existent. Similarly, in 1981, researchers studying two Polynesian communities for whom coconut was the primary caloric energy source found them to have excellent cardiovascular health and fitness. (2)

Where were all the clogged arteries and heart attacks from eating all of this "evil" saturated fat?

Obviously, coconut oil was doing nothing to harm the health of these islanders.

It may be surprising for you to learn that the naturally occurring saturated fat in coconut oil is actually good for you and provides a number of profound health benefits, such as:

• Improving your heart health.(3)
• Boosting your thyroid. (4)
• Increasing your metabolism.
• Promoting a lean body and weight loss if needed.
• Supporting your immune system. (5)

Coconut oil even benefits your skin when applied topically and has been found to have anti-aging, regenerative effects.

So, what are coconut oil's secrets to success?

How Coconut Oil Works Wonders in Your Body

Nearly 50 percent of the fat in coconut oil is of a type rarely found in nature called lauric acid, a "miracle" compound because of its unique health promoting properties. Your body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, which has anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-protozoa properties. (6)

Coconut oil is also nature's richest source of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), also called medium-chain triglycerides or MCTs. By contrast, most common vegetable or seed oils are comprised of long chain fatty acids (LCFAs), also known as long-chain triglycerides or LCTs.

LCTs are large molecules, so they are difficult for your body to break down and are predominantly stored as fat.

But MCTs (7) , being smaller, are easily digested and immediately burned by your liver for energy -- like carbohydrates, but without the insulin spike. MCTs actually boost your metabolism and help your body use fat for energy, as opposed to storing it, so it can actually help you become leaner.

Back in the 1940s, farmers discovered this effect accidentally when they tried using inexpensive coconut oil to fatten their livestock.

It didn't work!

Instead, coconut oil made the animals lean, active and hungry.

Coconut oil has actually been shown to help optimize body weight, which can dramatically reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes (8). Besides weight loss, boosting your metabolic rate will improve your energy, accelerate healing and improve your overall immune function.

And several studies have now shown that MCTs can enhance physical or athletic performance.(9)

And finally, as we have already discussed, coconut oil is incedibly good for your heart. The truth is this: it is unsaturated fats that are primarily involved in heart disease and too much sugar and processed foods, not the naturally occurring saturated fats, as you have been led to believe. (10)

Coconut Oil in Your Kitchen

Personally, I use only two oils in my food preparation.

The first, extra-virgin olive oil is the best monounsaturated fat and works great as a salad dressing. However, olive oil should not be used for cooking. Due to its chemical structure, heat makes olive oil susceptible to oxidative damage. So for cooking, I use coconut oil exclusively.

And polyunsaturated fats, which include common vegetable oils such as corn, soy, safflower, sunflower and canola, are absolutely the worst oils to cook with.

Why?

Three primary reasons:

1) Cooking your food in omega-6 vegetable oils produces a variety of very toxic chemicals, as well as forming trans-fats. Frying destroys the antioxidants in oil, actually oxidizing the oil, which causes even worse problems for your body than trans-fats.

2) Most vegetable oils are GM (genetically modified), including more than 90 percent of soy, corn and canola oils.

3) Vegetable oils contribute to the overabundance of damaged omega-6 fats in your diet, throwing offyour omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. Nearly everyone in Western society consumes far too many omega-6 fats -- about 100 times more than a century ago -- and insufficient omega 3 fats, which contributes to numerous chronic degenerative diseases.

There is only one oil that is stable enough to withstand the heat of cooking, and that's coconut oil. So, do yourself a favor and ditch all those "healthy oil wannabes," and replace them with a large jar of fresh, organic, heart-supporting coconut oil.

What is Stevia | Benefits | Treatments | Side Effects | Where to Buy

What is Stevia

Stevia is a small shrub like perennial plant which belongs to sunflower (Asteraceae) family. It is also known as Eupatorium rebaudianum, sweetleaf, honeyleaf and sugarleaf, and sweet herb of Paraguay. The leaves of Stevia are a source of natural zero-calorie sweetener which is considered sweeter than sugar (sucrose). It has been used in South and Central America , Japan and many other parts of the world as a sugar substitute and in the treatment of a number of health conditions for centuries. Initially the leaves of Stevia were consumed fresh or dried but eventually chemists isolated the glycosides called stevioside and rebaudioside from its leaves that give stevia its sweet taste. Stevia also contains phytonutrients, trace elements, minerals, vitamins and volatile oils which give Stevia its nutritional and medicinal properties. In 2008, FDA (The Food and Drug Administration) approved sweetener derived from the herb stevia as safe for use in foods and beverages. The steviols glycosides are now used in herbal supplements, foods and beverages, and as sweetening powders and syrups. Unlike other sweeteners, Stevia can be used in baking and cooking and its lesser amount is ample.

What are the Benefits of Stevia?
A number of studies show that Stevia can be beneficial in the treatment of many health conditions. Stevia is believed to have anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-glycemic, and anti-hypertensive properties which may help with hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, chronic fatigue, indigestion, upset stomach, heartburn, weight loss, cold and flu, gingivitis, tooth decay, cavities, dandruff and hair loss, brittle bones or osteoporosis, streptococcus, candidiasis, bacterial infections and skin conditions such as cuts, wounds, rashes, itchiness, blemishes, acne, seborrhoeic dermatitis, dermatitis, eczema, and wrinkles. It may also improve energy levels, strengthen immune system, stimulate mental activity, and may also help in withdrawl from tobacco and alcohol addiction.

Uses of Stevia
Dandruff and Hair Health
Stevia concentrate is believed to be beneficial for dandruff, dry scalp, and dull, dry and thin hair. People have noticed stronger, dandruff-free and rejuvenated hair after the regular use of Stevia. Simply mix 3-4 drops of Stevia concentrate into your regular shampoo and wash as normal. Also, after shampooing, using stevia tea as a conditioner and rinsing it out after 5 minutes can help retain natural hair colour and strength.

Diabetes
Studies and researches show that Stevia may stabilize blood sugar levels, increase insulin resistance, may even promote insulin production by promoting the pancreas health, discourage glucose absorption in the blood, and inhibit candidiasis - a yeast infection that flourish with sugar. Stevia is a great low carb, low sugar and low calorie sugar alternative and the steviol glycosides are not metabolized by the body and are excreted in the urine without getting accumulated in the body. A Study also suggests that Stevia may inhibit the craving for sweet and oily or fatty foods. Drinking tea made with crushed raw Stevia leaves, or with its extract or tea bags two to three times daily may help with hyperglycemia. To make Stevia tea, heat - not boil one cup of water and let a tea bag or 1teaspoon of its leaves steep in it for 5 -7 minutes. Drink it hot or cold. Or 3-4 drops of Stevia extract can be added to warm or cold cup of water. Also stevia can be used as a natural alternative to any other artificial sweetener being used.

Gingivitis
Study shows that antibacterial properties of Stevia may help with gingivitis, cavities, tooth decay and mouth sores. It may suppress the development and reproduction of infectious organisms in the gums and teeth, inhibit the growth of plaque and may improve overall oral health. People who have used Stevia as a mouthwash has reported significant decrease in gingivitis and other mouth infections. Simply gargling with Stevia mouthwash and brushing with Stevia added toothpaste may be beneficial. To make Stevia mouthwash, add 3-4 drops of Stevia extract in half a cup of lukewarm water or steep half a cup of tea with its leaves or teabag and gargle three to four times daily especially in the morning and at night. For toothpaste, mix 2 drops of Stevia extract to the regular toothpaste.

Heartburn and Indigestion
People in Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia have been using Stevia tea to soothe upset stomach, heartburn, and to improve indigestion and gastrointestinal function. Drinking Stevia tea after every meal may serve as a digestive aid and relieve heartburn and stomach pain.

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
A few longer term studies done over a period of 1 and 2 years show that stevia may lower elevated blood pressure levels. Simply drinking Stevia tea twice daily may help stabilize the blood pressure levels.

Osteoporosis
A study performed on chickens shows that by adding Stevia leaf powder to chicken feed it significantly increased calcium metabolism in the chickens and had 75% decreased eggshell breakage. A patent application for possible Osteoporosis treatment with Stevia suggests that stevia may help promote absorption of calcium in the body and help improve bone density. Suggested remedy is to make Alfalfa and stevia tea by steeping Alfalfa herb and Stevia half teaspoon each for 5-7 minutes. Drink it two to three times daily. Adding vitamin D powder to the tea or taking its supplements can be beneficial too.

Weight Loss
Recent medical research suggests that low at carbohydrates, calories and sugar Stevia may be beneficial in weight management. One preliminary research suggests that Stevia may interfere with the functions of hypothalamus and may aid weight loss by curbing the hunger sensation. Hypothalamus is a part of the brain which controls hunger, thirst and fatigue along with its other functions. Anti-glycemic activity of Stevia may also control blood glucose levels which is one of the major causes of weight gain. Stevia works as a tonic to increase energy levels in people battling for weight loss. Suggested remedy is to drink one cup of Stevia tea or mix 10-15 drops of Stevia concentrate in one cup of cold or warm water. Drink it 15 minutes before every meal.

Wrinkles and Other Skin Conditions
Stevia is believed to be a remarkable healing agent for skin disorders. Its antioxidant, antibacterial and antiseptic activity may help with wrinkles, skin blemishes, dermatitis, eczema, acne outbreaks, scarring, rashes, itchiness and chapped lips. A small amount of Stevia concentrate applied directly onto the affected skin may promote the healing process. To smooth out the wrinkles, before going to bed, apply a paste made by crushed Stevia leaves or its liquid concentrate evenly all over the face and let it dry for fifteen to twenty minutes. Wash and pat dry your face and apply a few drops of extra virgin coconut oil on the face and leave it on over night to benefit from its antioxidant effects.

What are the Side Effects of Stevia?
There are not any reported side effects of Stevia when taken in moderation. Based on intensive global researches and scientific reports, The World Health Organisation (WHO) of the UN and Food and Drug Administration of the US had approved the use of Steviol glycosides as safe and has established an acceptable daily intake of 4mg per kg of body weight. However, if you are taking any medication for diabetes or hypertension, due to its anti-glycemic and anti-hypertensive activity supervised Stevia consumption is advised. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your physician before using Stevia therapeutically.

Where and How to Buy Stevia
Stevia is available at organic grocery and herbal food stores in the form of raw dried leaves, white or green powder, sugar tabs, granulated or crystalline sugar, concentrate, and flavoured and nonflavourd liquids. When buying Stevia look for Stevia rebaudiana because it is considered the best type and the FDA approved steviol glycosides are extracted from this genus in the whole Stevia family.

Note by Jaisya:
In Malaysia Stevia is available in powder, liquid drops and dried leaves forms. These can be purchased from the link provided in this blog or at Mydin Stores.
